Library Mission:

The mission of the library program at England Elementary is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information, promote the enjoyment of literature and reading, and encourage life-long learning.

Library Program:

The England Elementary Library operates on a flexible schedule with an open access policy.  Students may come to the library at any time to check out a book, research information, or read independently.  Teachers work collaboratively with the librarian to schedule research and literature appreciation lessons.  Students use research models for information seeking strategies.

Checkout:

All books have a two-week checkout time.  Kindergarten students may check out one book at a time and are encouraged to bring their book home to read.  Students in 1st grade may check out up to two books at a time.  Students in 2nd through 5th grades may check out up to three books at a time.  Magazines are available for checkout for students in 2nd-5th grades.  Playaway audio books are available for students in 3rd-5th grades to check out.  Due to the expensive nature of these materials, a parent permission form must be signed before students can check out a Playaway.

Damaged & Lost Book Policy:

Accidents happen!  If a book accidentally becomes damaged, we ask that the student report the damage so we might try to repair the book.  If a book page accidentally rips, please do not attempt to repair the book at home.  We use special book tapes and glue, which resist heat and won’t discolor, and are better for the life of the book.

If a book becomes damaged beyond use or lost, we ask that the student pays the cost to replace the book so we can purchase that book again for our collection. Note: please do not purchase a copy of the book on your own; we will go through proper library vendors in order to acquire the highest quality library-bound copy as a replacement.
