But running a football betting ring at school eventually turns sour, and Mitch loses the only real friend he’s made. He’ll have to win her back by using his brainpower for good and helping the school football team achieve victory–if¬†they’ll listen to the advice of a former bookie! (recommended for ages 8-12)

Texas Book Festival THIS Weekend!

This weekend is the Texas Book Festival at the Texas Capitol! ¬†Please visit www.texasbookfestival.org for a schedule of authors and more information about the festival. ¬†It’s FREE and very FUN! ¬†I hope to see everyone there!

Our First Inventory

Our library is looking more and more beautiful every day!  Last Monday, August 6th, our first shipment of 6,500 books arrived and was shelved by an awesome crew!  Then, on Thursday, August 9th, our next shipment of 5,800 books arrived and was unpacked and shelved.

This past Tuesday, August 14th, I invited six of the Bibliophiles (student library volunteers) from my previous school to come to England and have an inventory party to scan all of our library books!  The girls were AMAZING, and we were able to scan ALL of our 13,000 library books in less than 5 hours!!!  They also helped unpack our new calculators and CD players and straighten the library.  I truly appreciate their help this week, because without them, our library would still have a long way to go before being ready!

I can’t wait until next Thursday’s Open House when I get to share our beautiful library with the entire England Community! ¬†Please be sure to stop by and take a look around!

Summer Fun

Since my last blog post, we have all finished up a great school year, and I have been very busy selecting and ordering the thousands of fabulous books that will soon fill up our library shelves! ¬†Last week, I sent off my very first book orders for England Elementary, and I can’t tell you how exciting it was to click the “send” button and know that thousands of wonderful books would soon be on their way to our new school for YOU to read and enjoy!

I hope that you have had an awesome summer so far, and that you are reading LOTS of wonderful books! ¬†Last week, another librarian and I taught our June session of Camp Bluebonnet — a four-day reading camp for students entering 3rd-5th grade held at Great Oaks Elementary where we read five of this year’s Texas Bluebonnet Award nominated books and have LOTS of fun activities to go with each book. ¬†Our first session was SO much fun, and we are looking forward to teaching the camp again July 9-12! ¬†There are still a few spots left in¬†the July session, so click the link below if you are interested in signing up!

There are also great summer reading programs available from both the Round Rock Public Library and Barnes & Noble. ¬†All Round Rock ISD students can check out books and participate in the Summer Reading Program from the RRPL between June 4th and August 6th — even if you live outside of Round Rock City Limits! ¬†More information on those reading programs can be found in the links below.

I hope everyone continues to have an awesome summer, and I am looking forward to meeting and seeing all of the England school community soon! ¬†Please keep checking back here often, as I am planning to make several other posts this summer on our library blog, and possibly give away a prize or two! ūüôā
