Armadillo Readers’ Choice Award Program

The Armadillo Readers’ Choice Award is a program for K-2 students in Round Rock ISD. Each year, ten outstanding picture books are nominated by librarians in the district, with special attention to diversity, variety of literature, appealing high-interest subject matter, and curricular areas in building the book list.

The committee of librarians writes accompanying TEKS-based, technology-rich, engaging lesson ideas in a variety of subject areas each year as a foundation for our K-2 library curriculum. Since it’s inception in 2004, the Armadillo program has been a valuable resource for Round Rock ISD librarians in collaborating with teachers to implement high-quality, cross-curricular lessons in the library.

Each Spring, K-2 students vote for their favorite Armadillo book. Votes are tallied across the district and the winning author is presented with the Armadillo Readers’ Choice Award! Approximately 10,000 K-2 students participate in the Armadillo program each year.
